Post subject:  NFT: Flow rate through NFT tubes

Hey All,

I'm busy planning out my sizing for piping to send water into the NFT tubes. They're 4" tubes, with 4" all the way to the drain, however input will of course be different sizing. I have a 3/4" pump tube, which I'm thinking about running a rail from, and using T's to restrict to either 1/2" or 1/4", but I can't quite work out how much flow is the right amount of flow to be going into the tube, or if I need to restrict at all... logically, I'd like to restrict the fluid to avoid having to put ball valves on each of the 10 lengths of pipe, in an attempt to average out the pressure between them, but that could probably be achieved from 3/4" to 1/2", and 1/2 will still give me 420GPH maximum (with gravity flow) - 840GPH (with low pressure 20 - 100PSI), but as I'm coming from a 3/4", it's more like dividing 660GPH - 1410GPH over 10, assuming I can create even water distribution... do I need more? do I need a faster pump? Any good guidelines? should I go to 1/2", or even smaller to 1/4"?

Thanks in advance!
