Recently I have noticed multiple newer forum members mention that they were going to use IBCs that had Monsanto's evil herbicide Roundup in them. I found this kind of scary. I think that a list of IBCs that people should graciously decline is needed. Perhaps also include a list of totes that people might otherwise think bad but not be so bad after all. For instance, some members have had successful systems with totes that had motor oil in them. I would prefer to only use food grade, but there are some shades of gray, and some that just plain bad. I'll start with the obvious. If it has had stuff in it designed to KILL stuff, just say "Oh, thank you, but I already have another source lined up." |

None of my IBC's have been food grade and some of them have been home for some pretty nasty stuff. Everyone will have a different perspective on this subject and it has been flogged quite a lot here before. It comes down to personal preference. I will say I would not use and I would not recommend anyone else use a container that previously contained herbicides or pesticides. I don't advocate the fear of plastics and HDPE is the safest one out there but............. don't go using something that contained something like roundup on purpose. It is getting harder and harder to get away from the residues of the stuff because of all the roundup ready GMO's don't go adding the residues of it into your home food supply. That is just me. |

I must say Bunson, that was one of your better posts. If in doubt, check the MSDS. Even Monsanto says this s**t is nasty, don't reuse the containers. |

The guy i bought my IBC from said it had 'poly oil' in it. I had no idea what that was but he said that other people used them as fish tanks so that was good enough for me. It still had some in bottom when i was cleaning it out but it wasn't oily like say motor oil, washed out quite easily actualy so i think it might of been some kinda edible oil. http://www.tullco.com/msds%20poly-oil.htm MdMx, PolyOil looks pretty benign... Mineral and vegetable oil mix? It says that the product will float on water, so fill it up with water and throw some dish soap in there!
