Hi Guys, Anyone have a simple design for a DIY pond vac to suck away excess crud from the bottom of my FT or sump? Any help appreciated Cheers |

Use a long PVC pipe with a bend at the end attach to this a short length of pipe with a groove round one end. Internally within the short piece have a protrusion endcapped and drilled with a hole pointing towards the grooved end. Attach a clean sock to the grooved end using a strong elastic band to hold it in place. Pump water through the pipe and the jet going into the sock will create a suction at the other end allowing detrius to be trapped in the sock. I hope that made sense

Have a pic (at page 14) a pipe with reducers and a piece of smaller dia pipe on the bottom end. You cover the top end with your hand to kept the air in, push it to the bottom of FT, take off the hand to let escape the air and suck in the crud, then you have to cover the top again and empty it outside. Does need a bit of practise. If I could find a concentric reducer for the bottom, the smaller bottom pipe could be pushed further inside to form a trap. Would be easier to use. |
