After upgrading my pump and installing spray bars and dialling down pump inflow to break the siphon I was finally happy with my setup. Then this morning I was dismayed to see 7x 10cm SP dead in the FT. The culprit… a faulty timer! I know this because the gravel is dry a long way down. I know some people say that the pump is the heart of the system and if this is so then the timer must be the lungs. I bought a $7 jobbie from Bunnings and am looking to replace it with something more reliable.

What sort of timers do forum members have that they have found reliable and how much did they pay?

Why do you have a siphon and a timer?

Good question, dunno, it was what I came across when first researching and I like the idea of it. What would you suggest in it's place?

Go one way or the other...

Either ditch the timer... and pump continuously with a siphon...

Or buy a decent timer... ditch the siphon cap... drill two small holes in the bottom of the standpipe...

Either way... buy a two outlet battery backup airpump (BYAP sells them)... if your pump fails and water stops moving... so does your aeration...

Sod's law would of course dictate that my air pump arrived in the mail THIS ARVO!!!
