Post subject:  Koralia Evolution Water Pump
Has anyone every tried one of these? Specs kinda look too good to be true (550 GPH @ 4.5W). I realize that you can't use this to pipe water up into a GB, but it seems like it could have limited AP application.

I run something similar in my ft. The fish love it.

The last few entries in my system thread are about using one for a constant flood system where the grow bed and fish tank sit side by side with the water level at the same height in each, and a power head to push water between the two.

They definitely cant be used to move water up, but the sift a huge amount of water around.

I have a 13 watt, 5000LPH one. I cant be sure how much water it moves, but at zero it moves more than my 3000LPH pump, so I think the specs are probably correct.

I use mine as backup air. I run the powerhead directly through mains power, and my pump via a battery via an inverter. That way if the power goes out everything runs as normal, but if my inverter dies or my battery charger fails, the fishies still have oxygenated water.

Another alternative for moving water inside the FT is an eductor add-on to a regular pump outlet. There are also propeller add-ons for some powerheads.

I tried making a homemade one by flaring a wide pipe with a lighter and wine bottle and suspending the stream from a regular pump in the center of that, seemed to be doing something, but am using air lifts to circulate the water instead.

They describe the action as the same as a venturi but with water, which I think is a helpful and simple way to think about it.

Do these pumps swivel only or can they be directed to only 1 direction?

Mine doesnt swivel

If it swivels and you dont want it to... snap it :)

Three words, Ecotech Vortech Pumps.

The Koralia's are great, but with the range of surges, river flow, lagoon, feed time and night settings, as well as a random spread, nothing else come close. You can literally create any environment imaginable, to keep your fish healthy and active. They can also be wirelessly controlled. A little dearer than the Koralia, but definitely on my wish list.

Look also at the Tunze vaieties.

That wave pump with magnetic through glass drive (I'm guessing that's how it works) just solved an industrial problem for me, keeping a silica water mix in suspension.
