Thinking of using the tank below for a fish tank but I am not sure how it will fair. http://www.tractorsupply.com/storage-ta ... oduct_tabs Would bury 2/3 of the tank to better control the temps winter and summer. would use the bottom port for a return from the sump with a check valve installed to prevent back flow. Has anyone used something similar? I figure start with an over size tank, equipment and expand from there. I look forward to your comments. |

what is floating center of the system tank? How long have you been using that setup and have you run into any problems thus far? |

are your electric costs still within your cost from your other posts I have been reviewing other things you have posted on the site and it doesn't seem that much of a strech to have it running on (4) 300Watt solar panels. |

My air pump is 60 odd watts and my water pump is 160 watts. To run off solar you would need to store the energy at least for the air pump at night. |

Just had a real quick read.. I would not use the Bottom port at all if you Bury the tank.. If you can you want to try to get a tank that does not have any hole in it below ground Level.. You need to make sure that there is no Chance at all that the Tank will leak from there.. You want to keep the tank lines as clean as possible where it is in the ground.. Very rarely have I had leaks with my plumbing jobs. I don't mean to say it doesn't happen but the main concern I would have is the return line getting clogged with filth and trash bits from the system. I was thinking of using a standpipe to release the overflow from the fish tank and a sump pump to constantly fill the tank the back flow or check valve is to kill a full drain of the system if the pump stops working. Does anyone on this site use check valves in there systems to prevent back flow? Thanks for all you posts to date nice to get the feed back. still looking for a local source to acquire layout and materials. |

I think it come down to how the system is Plumbed.. I know that for mu system I shall be using a check valve on part of my system As I don't want to drain down my moving media Filter.. Juergen |
