I have managed to score a BYAP 3000 litre fish tank second hand and now with all the marvelous space (and water) I was wondering if putting crayfish (or equivalent) into one of these along with silver perch is a good idea or will they just proceed to climb the sides and escape ? Essentially what level of escape control is needed .. Regards David |

It's pretty hard for them to climb the sides of the tank Dave... airlines and pump power cords are a different story... Where did you score the 3000L tank from... and where did you put it.... P.S .. have the divorce proceedings commenced...

Rupe, I stalked ebay for a while and picked up a whole byap family system second hand - minus the stands. Pulled it apart , packed up ALLLLLLL the hydroton and trailered it to my place from Newcastle area(an epic story in itself). It's been sitting on my driveway/front lawn for a couple months while we did some landscaping - read concreting.. I put most it together to discover the main pump was history, but replaced that pretty quickly with a spare I had and have been letting it cycle happily. Amazingly a whole load of tomatoes seedlings have appeared out of the hydroton , despite being stored in barrels for a number of weeks. and yes strangely enough ... I am now not allowed to get any more bits :-) |

Spot on Rupe, Ive got marron and SP in an IBC, came out the other night with a torch and found one of the marron had climbed all the way up the flexi hose from the pump! I was wondering where the other 5 went... Im going to try making a shield from an ice-cream container lid (a bit like what ships have to stop rats etc climbing the ropes) which will hopefully stop them escaping |
