Looking at air pumps at the moment. The AOC look good and are said to be quiet ( pump will be near bedrooms) but how do people have them backed up. Other option is the resun 8800 with built in backup but the airflow is allot less. Currently have a 2500ltr system. Any advice appreciated

You can buy a computer back unit to use for this project. Just use it as it is supposed to be used. I usually try to find one that already has external connections for the battery. The get a larger battery to use for the backup supply and connect to those connections. Other wise you have to make a hole in the case for some cable to exit the backup unit to connect to the larger battery. You can use a small unit this way. If you do not want to do this you can buy a larger back up unit and live with its battery capacity. A deep cycle RV battery will run an air pump a long time. The back up unit will recharge the battery when power is restored so you don not need a battery charger. Just put it in a box to keep the water off it. It also will need some ventilation so do not make it air tight.

I run my 60 l/min Helliar AC off a 300w UPS, its a very old and basic one, hooked it upto an old 80AH SLA battery, it would run it for many hours, Just had to make up a tail cord that plugs into the UPS and has a normal plug on the other end.

although i think u can buy these from jaycar and similar.

after playing with all kids of bbu systems iv designed and trialled this is far by the easiest, cheapest and most reliable. i do have an inverter incase of a long black out that i could hook upto my car to operate the water pump.
