Howdy all,

Would really appreciate a speedy response fi anyone is able....

Only on the main land for this arvo and tomorrow morning. Been buying grow beds and sump tanks...amazing whats availiable here in Thailand and how cheap they are!

Anyways, questions is...Has anyone heard of "Linz" pumps? Apparently its made in Italy, and seems like a very good high quality unit.

Have done a forum search and on google too and cant find a thing.

The pump im looking at is 13,200lph at zero head, which about double what I need :) There are other chinese pumps here for half the price and half the capacity, but this just seems like such a good unit its made me think twice. I can always divert the extra flow back into the sump and use it for extra oxygenation....

It works out to be about $120 which like everything here in Thailand is unbelievably cheap.

Yeah so if anyone knows anything about this brand would love to hear from you...

and is it totally crazy to use a pump thats twice the capacity of whats required?

Power usage is not an issue, we are making our own here.

13,200 at zero head, what is it at the height you need it pumped to?

about 2.5m-3m head.

It will be splitting 4 ways (3 GB's and the FT), so total combined horizontal distance of about 5.5-6m

the label says it drops to 20lph at 8m head

You only need to factor in the vertical height. Say if it was 3m (check the label and see what its lph is at that height)

It doesnt have a graph like a lot of pumps do, just says 20lph at 8m - 13200lph at 0m

whoops mistake...the actual figers are in L per minute

20lpm at 0m - 220lpm at 8
so thats:
1200 at 0m and 13200 at 8m

The general rule with pumps is that you get what you pay for... We had a guy come in a couple of days ago, he had bought three pumps from online, dirt cheap.. He nearly lost all his fish after pump failures..

You can cut corners on price in a few areas, but pumps? I'd rather have something that will last a bit longer than be really cheap..

So EB, you would recommend I go the much higher capacity Italian made pump that just ooozes quality over the much cheaper (cost wise, and in feel...its the same physical size as the Linz one, but weighs about 1/3 as much), however closer the my required capacity....

Stuart, Off the top of my head, the Linz (the seemingly top quality one) was 400w...

I think im going to go for it....its well with the projects budget, and the extra aeration that ill get from the T+ball valve to regulate excess flow is much needed....

Seriously the Linz just looks and feels like the best quality pump ive ever personally held in my hands.

Just wish I could find some more info about it/the company.....

They make alternators and things like that, and I can find plenty of info about that....aso they make surgical pumps for pumping blood and larger irrigation pumps

No idea, I haven't seen either of them, nor have I seen specs or had personal experience with either of them? :dontknow:

Havent used Linz pumps but have used both Lowara and Laguna which are both Italian made. I have one Lowara pump here that hasn't missed a beat in the 10 years since I got it. So in my opinion its worth spending a few more dollars on a decent pump that will be reliable and last a while.

You usually get a higher flow rate at 0 head and lower flow rate as the head (back pressure from the weight of the water and gravity etc) increases.

I'd say if the graph isnt included in the marketing they are trying to hide something. Go with someone who is transparent and then you can do closer comparisons in what you are getting for your money.

If you are using solar maybe look at 12v pumps? I'd be interested in your take on them if you do any research.

I once bought a Chinese pump that looked the goods and felt like it was the correct weight.
3 months later there was red around the joins.
So I pulled it out of the tank and gave it a little tickle to open it, the weight was thanks to an offcut piece of metal inside.

The flow rates that you posted don't make any sense to me.

The Laguna 16000 produces a flow of 16000Lphr @ 0m using 160 watts.
