I'm running the 6500L version of the ebay jebao... I've only been running it for about 2 weeks but so far it's awesome... at about 1m head it's still running a heap of water.... where it would take my old 1000l/h bunnings pump 2-3 days to clean out my cloudy FT, I can run a broom around the walls and bottom and cloud up the water and with this pump it's practically clear in 1 hour. It does a really good job moving water at low wattage. No report on reliability yet but if it lasts I'll be buying more when I eventually expand.

I'd probably buy more pumps though and run them in parallel rather than buy bigger pumps.... that way at least you have some room for redundancy if one of them dies.

I had the same pump and I was pretty disappointed that it only lasted 8 months, So I hope yours lasts longer than mine did

Came home to a pump failure today (see photo). Nothing floating yet but time will tell... A big water change and trip to Bunnings got her up and running again, but I'll keep monitoring for next few days.

The broken pump is shown in the attached photo. Looks like all but one impeller blade snapped off. It's pretty frustrating, I only bought the pump in June. I think I got it from Backyard Aquaponics but not 100% sure on that. Has anyone else had a similar problem with these pumps? Is that the type stocked at BYAP? If so, might be worth looking into the reliability of these pumps.

Not sure - will have to let you know tomorrow. I reckon the plants will be alright, and they're cheap anyway. I just hope I found it in time to save the fish

I have that exact pump and its been fine so far. About the same age (may 2012). It's strange that 3 impeller blades broke off at once. Was there anything solid in the tank that could have damaged the pump?

Not that I know of. Fish, air stones (all intact) and maybe a few leaves is all. It had the protective grille in place, so any solids would have to be pretty small to fit through the slots. Maybe one fin broke off and was whirring around in the cavity, impacting the other fins?

Better with your dirty water pump though really..

Hey Jat, looks like one of ours, generally that sort of damage only happens if stuff gets into the pump, dunno... :dontknow: We have found them to be very good pumps, hence the reason we back them with a 4 year warranty. Bring it in with your receipt and we'll swap it, no problems....

Earthbound, I didnt realise is was pre-filtered and not soft solid suitable. I got the aquapro 6000l instead for 200 and its soft solid suitable. While I was buying 2 of them the guy next to me starting eyeing me up and looking into the hole I left before grabbing 2 as well. I looked him in the eye and said "aquaponics?".... he nodded. Poor Sods kids wont be eating this month either.... :blackeye:
