Water coming from a bore usually has little or no oxygen in it, and an excess of co2 and nitrogen. Biological processes in the aquifer recharge zone have stripped out the oxygen. Degassing is needed. A fine spray nozzle on the makeup water should accomplish the task.

At least three posters on this thread use ground/well/bore water to top their systems up so knowing about nitrogen supersaturation, espeacially its prevalence in ground water, would be relevant to them. Plus how many other readers?
Also since one individual didn't think that this was an issue but was also talking about using an airlift to get water out of their bore makes the issue extra relevant.

Maybe not to Cargs the original poster though.

I'd say that I don't have a thin skin but you wouldn't believe me.

I have recently become keen on these remarkable machines thanks to my 2yr old son's love of all things "Thomas and Friends"
I have been looking up which train is (Gordon, Spencer, etc) based on and then spending the next 3hrs reading Wikipedia articles. We have been to a few model steam parks too.

I think I just gave my fish Gas bubble diving disease last night ~ 400 jade perch

normally the air lift feeds the grow beds but I bypassed it last night to feed back-into the tank directly so i could do maintenance , I am pretty sure its injected only a foot or 2 below the FT but the air lift is a good 3m down

at some stage last night the clamp I had on the air line let go so it was pelting air through the air lift , the fish normally swim in the stream , when I got their in the morning the water surface was all bubbles , and fish must be all on the bottom they did not even go for the feed, worst part it I topped the tanks up last night so i can not even raise the water level anymore for them

best I could do was fill the tank to the brim and hope they don't jump out
restricted airlift inlet so the wells water level is a foot lower

12 hrs later they still did not want to eat and still camping down the bottom , they were alive when I was pulling the bottom fish guard out for a clean 6 hours ago

guess it was a good thing I was not using the deeper lifter

finally they have their Appetite back

from now on making sure airlifts are only 2/3 of the FT depth , I did a test run on another tank with it set @ base of FT , same thing happened , guess air sill rushes down the airlift a bit before it goes back up

how ever now puzzled how a tank that should have 500 silver only had 128 !! 1 week later
they arrived half fry half fingerling , now only a few fry left

external filtration unit was disabled only sponge filtered used

anyone else notice if you have a stream of water rushing up a side wall the fish try swimming up it ?
