If I may make a suggestion,

Don't go buying anything else, start a thread on your proposed system with a rough diagram and pics of where you wish to put it. Also what you currently have (as in bits) and ask for suggestions.
There are a number of members in NSW who should be able to help you with cheap suppliers. :)

I agree, start a system thread and go from there.

viewtopic.php?f=18&t=27434#p538504 Already has a great title for a members system.

"Ok i will go with clay balls and the GB but am i able to cut off a majority of the legs on the GB section of the frame? my GB with the frame and legs are 52cm tall i think that is far to high"

Hey guys,

I'm setting up an ibc chop and flip system for the first time, looking forward to getting some fish and plants in. Im basically ready, the expanded clay balls have about half an inch of float as the grow bed fills so I'm wondering from experience is it ok to plant in this or is it too distrupting for the plants. Im thinking if there was a root system in place the balls may combine and all stay in place without floating, maybe not.
From reading, I see ppl suggest adding river pebble to the base of grow bed. I'm just wondering if necessary or is it ok to leave it and plant the way it is.
I have trimmed the drain pipe to 30mm approx now at first the surrounding 90mm stand pipe was floating but not now. Also I'm starting out using a flood and drain on timer.
I also tried covering with concrete pavers for a few days and keeping the balls flooded but no change unfort.
The brand im un sure on, the name on bag was BALLS expanded clay.
Cheers guys

No good for the plants when the clay floats and I've never heard of Balls brand.. lol Perhaps chinese produce which can tend to float more than European. Try chopping your stand pipe down just a little more, should then be enough weight in the media for it to stay down.

Thanks, ended up finding some made in Germany from another shop, removed the floating clay replaced with German which is noticeably heavier and thankfully doesn't float. ill let it run for a few days to remove chlorine then get some silver perch and veg
