ROTFLMAO  What, I leave it for a night & come back to being called PissKat?! BAHAHAHAHAH! Nutters.

I've been formally dubbed - "PK"! Suh-weet! (Just "Kat" is ok too, if you must abbreviate! hehe)

So whatcha gonna do about making it all pretty for your fishies? Stone is nOIce.. much better than hessian, IMO. I assume that you're sort of going for a rustic/country style look, as you thought of hessian? How do the fish feel about this? I personally would go for the post-retro-minimalist-industrial look... My fish are far more 'trendy' though  , being the DINKs that they are. They'd never settle for hessian.

No but seriously.. keen to hear what you want to do. Aesthetics are part & parcel of good design, I'm more of utilitarian kinda gal.. but most things are pretty if they're a good design. (OMG gag me quick! Before I start babbling even worse. :P )

You'll have to be careful around here  comments like this will get ppl talking

Seriously though, I do agree on the utilitarian ap setups. Mines starting out as just a tank and I might add some logs later if the fish ask nicely :D

Cheers,

Duncan.

Don't get me wrong guys, anyone who has seen some of my setups and contraptions will know that most of the time it goes as far as it need to work, and no more  But the native tank sort of just "happened" to look nice. First it was just gravel, then i put a large porus rock in for added bio-surface, then added a hand full of broken bricks and stones part buried in the gravel, then had to add two handfulls of large sea sells for PH buffering (also part buried), then added a few plants that i had culled from the tropical tank, then added two pvc pipes becasue the fish were getting narky. All this over the space of about 6 months or so. The only thing that didn't magicall look good as well as serve a purpose was the pvc pipes. Hence the idea of wrapping them in hessian. I'm trying to stay away from large rock formations becasue the perch have a tendancy to slash their sides if they get excited with one another

Would the hessian rot in the water? I have been surrounded by enough musty hessian bags in horses sheds... ;)

PS. you can still get lucerne chaff in hessian bags, so they must still sell em..

I'll show you all! I'l take over the world with hessian bags! You'll see!
(then possibly burn them :) ) LOL

Not sure about the rotting..........clean oxygenated water VS stagnant musty water...........i'm tipping it may not rot as much in the oxygenated water.............time will tell :)

Take the PVC pipes, smear silicon all over, dip in sand or aquarium gravel or stones of different sizes or all of the above - wellah! Use 90 degree corners on the ends and you could bury them in the gravel so you can't see them cept for the holes facing up :wav:
