Have you considered ditching the auto-syphons and switching to a more fool proof design ala BAP setups.

Standpipes in every bed, cut to just below the height of the media with two holes at the base (as close as possible to the bottom). Outer standpipe surrounds this to
keep media out.

Pump in main tank on timer (float switch or chift pist) pump in sump with float switch. Start system with sump full, main tank full and growbeds empty.
The growbeds will slowly drain into sump, sump pump pumps water to tank. Any over flow in growbeds goes straight to sump.

Run the timer 15 mins on, 45 off. OR Have two pumps, each one pumps to two beds each. Alternate the timers on each. One pump in sump with float switch.

Stick to the KISS principle....

I definately like the alternate bed flood method,,, only half maximum needed water being used at any one time.Grow beds/algie getting the same flow, but fish-tank only seeing half the drop in water level.
Also reduces size of required sump.
