I think the timer ones are probably a safer bet. I did have a few issues with a switch on mine recently, but managed to do a fix on it.

One of our state hatcheries has used the Sweeney type feeder for over ten years.

did anyone end up trying the "demand" feeders?

Think TC is going to do some experimenting with one Steve

...and NO F&F, did not find my manual :evil5: ...did manage to get a copy from vb tho, when he bought his feeder...very fortunate that I was able to get him to buy the same type as mine :bigsmurf:

Here's a couple of pics of a simple "belt feeder" from when I was last up at Natfish....

Just pull the belt back... activates the timer unit/spring mechanism......

Be about 3' x 1' x 1' John.... just pull back the blue belt, put feed on.... spring/clock mechanism just pulls it along at a set speed.....

Ohh, so the belt does not loop, more like a window shade? What type of feed times does it give? One load of feed and a constant feed rate?

Yep... like a window shade/blind... Think you can adjust the speed of the belt GF... but yeah... constant rate... can use any type of feed.

Cool - go for it hamish and let us know how it goes. Provides another option to the type Les and I got. Although it is smaller, it would seem to have a few advantages, including weather proof, smaller feed differential and you never know, it may even let you set different volumes for different feeds (eg feed them more in the morning than at night).

Hahahaha - I have actually seen the same item somewhere online in TARDIS blue!

Here is a link to the instructions:

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/a ... atId=14436

Seems that you can set 4 feed times per day and each feed time can be either a single feed or a double feed.

Not sure if you can adjust the size of each feed or if each feed is 15 grams with a double feed being 30 grams.

If this is the case the maximum feed for a day would be 30 grms x 4 feeds = 120 grams total.

How many Silver perch will this quantity of feed support?
