What size is your system. Unless I missed something Aerators are expensive inefficient, and noisy, equipment.

So why waste so much money. I understand some folk MUST have their gadgets...

AA, its cheap protection and easiliy made "uninterupptable" I like the idea of using cascading water for O2, but heavy densities means precations

And Aerators are not that expensive... A $80 to $ 90 outlay to ensure peace of mind is worth it

I have far better peace of mind not relying on bubblers that clog and degrade. And then there's pumping hot air into a warm system in summer...

But, each to his own. I'll get some waterfall DO figures next for those who prefer the dark arts ;)

AA dark arts suit me, passive airation is what i'm using atm, just saying the air pumps have merit especially in backup situations.

You have a DO meter!!!!!!!!!!! If you see a guy standing at the front of your place with a cigarette lighter you know its me

I had the same idea as Murray but Murray beat me to it or did the R&D rather. So it seems it may not supply for long enough. What you could do Murray is put a normally closed relay inline to a solenoid on the air supply line. that way when the power drops out the solenoid will open and supply air to the bubblers. I hope i got the relay description correct. Also i'm not sure if you can use solenoids on air systems, you may need a valve actuator instead.

Are there any divers here? I have been pondering this idea for a while. Buy a second hand scuba tank, a reg and a small bubbler. Use backup power to open a small (but reliable) solenoid. The rate would only have to be fairly slow. Think about it a human can survive an hour off your average 15L tank, if you slow the air rate down you could possibly get four or five hours.

Another alternative (from my spud gun days) is to use large diametre pressure PVC two endcaps, a fill valve and a solenoid+regulator to a bubbler. Fill it with an aircompressor to say 40 psi and use a 555 timer to pulse the solenoid every minute or so....
