I use a couple of these single "vibration pumps", the low power ones though, they are just an open impeller type and yes they just move water around.
In my IBC I have centre SLO, and getting the water to cirlcle makes a huge improvement in sucking up rubbish off the bottom. Old food and every last scrap gets sucked out now.

You shouldn't really have "old food" Jet... perhaps you're over-feeding...

By old food I more mean "processed food"........poo
There is some food too but its new stuff the fish dont get too before its swept up. Only cycling ~900lph per IBC, when I get it up to 1500lph it might suck up little fish!!
Ive just gone to floating feed.
My setup will even sweep sand and other heavier stuff to the pickup.
