And if you turned the outlet tap almost entirely off, it would most likely draw less again, centrifugal pumps are often like that- shifting less water means less energy use. Your open pump outlet is the case of shifting maximum water, so max load on the motor.

Usually they do draw less than the label claims, but sometimes much more, for example my Universal Pumps Sump Pump draws 260W, yet its rating is 0.1kW ie 100W.

If it draws more then it is breaking several regulations. The whole point of the rating is to inform consumers what they are buying.

I found some pump curves for the jeboa pumps. Not impressed relative to the Aquanova but the one or two I checked are comparable with the Laguna.

I want too upgrade my pump without spending small fortune and started too lean towards a Jebao pump because of price and the low power consumption.

On researching Jebao pumps I found quite a few good & bad reports, this one in particular.
http://goodthings-badthings.com/badchinesepumps.htm

The pump I'm thinking of buying is the Jebao Submersible 5000L/H Eco Pump, the 6500L/H 50Watt Pump sells for $99.00, the 5000L/H would be cheaper and probably uses even less power.

The 6,500 L/H is an over kill but would I be able to throttle it back to turn over approx. just over 2,000 litres of water without loading the pump too much?

Has anyone had any problems with Jebao pumps?, any feedback would be appreciated.
