Hi,
Two things off the top.

1. Patience and the five P's
Prior Planning Prevents Piss-poor Performace

2. I dont think I saw too much on water pumps.
This is some things I picked up this week.

A water pump with enough pressure, head/pipe heights/length, volume/hour etc. Lots of info on the forums about this.
Note: if you have a pump which sits outside your tank then be prepared to ensure its continued use. For backup consider a 2nd and exact same model or at least similar spec or expect flow issues. Get a submersible one for emergencies and flexible hosing so you can pipe things around quickly as needed.

I had a dilmema choosing between open impellor for passing solids and possibly some sand/grit or closed impellor which are generally cheaper and dont like grit and small/large solids but fish poo is fine it seems. So the cheaper pumps are fine for AP. yay smaller systems can use the existing pump by taking out the replaceable filter.

Just be aware to put a strainer over water outlets to capture grit before it goes back into the fish tank so to reduce problems with the pump.

A little bit of grit will pass through ok say from larger stones in the fish tank which may be being broken down. So you need to have a filter on the inlet to the pump so small fish, rocks and around 5mm will be a good size so poo goes through to the grow beds.

Also, so far solar pumps only for small sized piping runs and daylight .operation.

yeah so pumps are not as cool as chainsaws 8)
errrmmm. :P

But buy with discretion.
I got a 'Legacy' Garden Buddy 8000L/h for about $250 at bunnings and a submersible 3500L/h for $51 as a backup to a $18 15000L/h sub.

So... for marking was I close?

3. more patience more planning and some sleepless nights.

ta/Shaun
