Hi ER - won't the resin eat into normal polystyrene, or are you talking of having wood between the polystyrene and the f'glass? Polysyrene of reasonable thickness seems to be fairly expensive in itself - at least when I was lookign I could never find a cheapish supplier.

Yes VB polyester resins will attack polystyrene but epoxy resins won't. Fibreglass is a generic term to cover a large family of compatible and in-compatible chemicals.

You can laminate polystyrene quite successfully with normal PVA glue. Being able to apply pressure across the whole area helps. Besides plywood you can also use corrugated cardboard to make laminated panels.

If you want to use polyester resin you would need to use polyurethane foam. Polyester resin is cheaper than epoxy resin but polyurethane foam is much more expensive than polystyrene foam. Swings and roundabouts.

be very careful here, the by product of this with some resins results in an explosive. I won't say which one, because people do silly things!

DT Hawk, there are usefull info on making fibreglass products that is featured on the website of a famous glass fibre manufacturer.I think it's fibre glass or bgf fibre where you could get info on the reinforcement (in this case glass in their varius forms) and you could try the resin manufacturer ie cray valley that produces some good resins for fibreglass work.

I would to thank you for your mission works that promotes AP in the countries and communities that you have introduced AP to them.Keep on the good work and may God Bless your mission with a double fold of blessings.

I would love to help you in your pursue of making f/glass GB, but then I would need a big space to explain the details of the process involved in making a f/glass GB.Hope the info above would help you.

If there are question further, you can post them to me.

WD

It works!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go down your reclamation/demolition yard, speak to local Double glazing installers, old doors/conservatrys. The panels they use instead of glass, insulated and strong. get off cuts for nothing usually. Build a supporting frame from wood, seal the joints with food grade silicone, done deal.....................
