Good effort Stu, but I don't think it will catch on.

I worked with a person who couldn't understand why everybody complained about his obsessive use of abbreviations, especially the ones he made up willy nilly. I started including on my instructions to him DUA!

he was perplexed by this and didn't want to but eventually asked what DUA stood for....

I happily explained "Don't Use Abbreviations"

I just hope that people now have a better understanding of the way my brain works and appreciate the efforts I go to with my posts to translate what I'm thinking into something that can actually be understood.

Seriously though such systems only catch on when there is a real need to be that precise and there is a group of people that collectively feel the need for such a system.

The only real distinction that needs to be made from time to time is that constant flow and constant flood are not same thing. A while ago there were a bunch of posts where these to were used interchangeably.

The way these things get settled is that different scientists put forward different naming systems. The different systems gain popularity and different generally mutually exclusive adherents. At some point it is recognised that there needs to be a common system adopted so that everyone is using the same terms and then a massive fight starts because of course the method that each person is using is the best so everyone else should change. If you think these debates are civilised then think again, the language might not involve any swearing but it can get really vicious.

Another thing that regularly happens is that competing research teams will develop a different system in response to one developed by a rival research team much like the promulgation of CHOP after the naming of CHIFT PIST. Those ones get really ugly because there is often existing bad blood between the two groups.

Wouldn't it just be easier to rename constant flow to something like uninterrupted flow? Or steady flow?
