I did not use tin. I used cheap builders plastic stretched around the outside on the cage. It worked for me.

So the plastic works ok?
I've been thinking tin but if I can get away with plastic I will do that. Won't the plastic determinate faster? Ie need replacing sooner?

It is all about the geology of your site. If your hole maintains it's sides without caving, you will likely be okay. If your sides crumble, something stronger would be best.

Hi all,
I'm sure this question has been asked before but I can't seem to find an answer.
Can I use an IBC without the steel base? The valve sits lower that the rest of the tank and I'm worried about cracking, distortion etc.
It will be used for a sump and will be sitting on concrete.
Thanks

I had that same concern which caused me to use a second IBC on a base frame.

I might still use the base yet. It's just that extra 150mm of base means I lose about 100 litres of sump capacity.
The other option is I just pack it up high enough so the valve doesn't touch the ground which will only result in a height gain of around 25mm.

Concrete is a little hard to dig.

sorry didnt read the " on concrete " part, i just assumed that if its a sump that it would be dug in.

If its on concrete there is no need for the base at all, if the drain is too low, place some boards under the rest of the bladder so its "just" high enough to not touch.
