Les, don't have details as to the inner wrokings, but would seem simple enough for a man of your expertise to figure out and perhaps refine....

Then I also found this DIY "on demand feeder"... which I guess is a similar adaptation....

Tks Rope, trouble with demand feeders is ya gotta train the fish...and...they could empty the thing just having fun

...also...I've got a bloody auto fish feeder

Only want the feeder when off on hols, so it won't be a permanent fixture, thanks for the thought tho

Plans were put up here once before for how to make an on demand feeder. Not too difficult - but I tend to agree with Les. The mechanical one he has seems like a good option.

Parnk. It runs on a 6V DC battery (can be linked to a small solar panel as well) and has a very accurate digital timer don my butting in to this thread but I thought I'd mention a fish-feeder option I have started using. I found an automatic game feeder on a US web site for Hunters etc. It's not expensive (about US$40 I think). It has a very accurate digital timer built into it capable of 16 feeds a day with times down to 1 sec and up to 30. The motor spns a small disc uder a hopper (your provide the hopper. I iuse a 20 litre drum that holds about 20kg of feed) and the feed drops down through a small funnel onto the spinner plate. When not in use the feed forms a pyramid on the plate and sits there waiting for the next feed time. It allows me to be away from the tanks for days at a time if need be. The site is Cabelas - you'll find it on google.

have fun.

John, it works fine.....tested it for 2 days, feeding morning and evening....nice to watch with stubbie in hand. - need to set up a platform over the main tank for it and move the SP into there as well

Looking at going on hols about mid august so will give it a longer test before leaving
