Just an update... have sourced the blue drums. They work out to just under $19 each delivered for 8x!

Still working on the IBC's but $250 each is the best so far.

Rupert,

Where have you seen them for $150 (i.e. what kind of supplier)???

Ebay is usually around $250+
3 out of 3 reconditioning suppliers here in Melb were $250 or more (if they even had any due to demand).
I rang one manufacture/supplier and was quoted $375 new.

AJ, been a while since I last looked around and yes sadly eBay prices are definitely more than they were even 3-6 months ago.... still seen them occasionally around $165-$180.

Guess I'm spoilt living around a semi-rural farming area... seem to be plenty around and still going for the $150 price.

Guess it's another reflection of the drought?

We have them here, they are used to hold foliar trace elements sprays and liquild fertiliser. The only problem is that all the rural supplies stores insist on a $300 deposit on the IBC. Nutz!! I'm not going to pay that for one (I suppose that is the point really...).

That trailer looks like it is almost roadworthy there Rupe. ;)

Yeah, like the way he says that it's towable with some water in it but not sure if it is towable when full....

towable when full...... reckon it'd be lying on the road hehehe

Rupert, thanks for the links. Have seen them already but they are too far away and/or to much stuffing around given I want 2-3. Trying to find a single source.

Out of interest, I received Aquasonic’s catalogue and price list today. For purpose-built aquaculture tanks of around 1000L you're looking at between $650-$800+. .

I have another supplier that has approx 1250L (60cm deep) Laguna rectangle ponds for around the $350 mark.

So volume/volume the IBC are still a great deal.

The search continues…

Out of curiosity... does anyone have an idea what kind of cost versus volume is involved in the open-top aquapate/corry tanks some are using?

forest got on to a manufacturer doing 2,000l aquaculture tanks for around $300 (1800mm diam * 800mm height) - that's in Qld tho but prices should be comparable in Vic
