lateral thinking here, or maybe stupidity jumping onto the bandwagon.

Realised yesterday we had a Onga 413 pump in shed hasn't been used for couple of years but would this work.

The 400 series of Onga Hi-flo pumps are constructed of the same corrosion-resistant materials as the bigger 140 range, so they’ll also deal well with tough circumstances. They provide water flows up to 270 litres a minute (16000 L/Hour) or maximum pressure up to 26 metres.

Model 413 is ideally suited to circulation duty in hydroponic greenhouses. With casings moulded out of strong ABS, these pumps are built to take on the harshest and most corrosive environments.

Hiya Tonzz, what is the power draw? Is it designed for solids?

Thats what I'am trying to find out.
It has a fan type impeller and thats my concern, but then how do other pumps work.

Its a big beast though and 240volt, they are more often used as pressure pumps for property without mains water.

We used to have one when I lived out in the country, I know the sort you mean.

I don't think they'll handle continual use though. I could be wrong on that though.

It'd suck up a lot of energy though, for comparison, my 8000Lph pump draws 70W, a house pump like that drawn 2500W to create the house pressure. But check out what it says on the sticker.

Will have to wait till businesses are open to check about continual flow.

At this stage I'am not worried about energy, just the setup budget. We are setting up at work so the power can be swallowed up there.

Just to give you an idea of costs of running, mine is about $100 per year to run, with the on peak and off peak we've got in SA.

The quarterly running costs for the 2400W pump running 24/7 will be $1600. For every quarter.

just starting out, with hopefully 1000l fish tank, 500l sump tank, 3 x 300l grow beds, 5x 2.9m horizontal tubes.

There is a Jebao 2000l/h pump lying around as well.

I've got a jebao eco pump in mine, the 2000L one you've got should work well.

Granted the maths might be a little off, because they won't continually draw 2500W, but it'll still be pricey.

Mine is off ebay, I don't think many local stores would sell them, besides over priced bunnings.

I wouldn't call this pricy

That's very similar to mine, been running two years without a hiccup.

My first system started October 2006 started using a pump like that [its still running] beauty of it was it pumped so much water to 9 different spots sucking out of 3 different ibc/s it only needed it run about 5 min in the hour
So when you divide the usage by that it ran quite cheap

looking into this more it appears this model is 240v I could be mistaken (2nd time in my life ) they have another model that is DC
awaiting reply back from then.

Are you running off solar?

not yet mate.
as I said this is being set up at our business in Pt Lincoln, when we finally settle down on our own block solar is a high priority.
Reason Iam questioning 240 v that and water dont mix happily, DC at least gives a little breathing space
