THe whole bio diesel thing and alternative fuels should get more attention... like your experiment showed, the cocnut oil worked great... in south africa the government was trying to get small scale farmers to plant what we called diesel berries (sorry, never learnt the 'propper' name for them), but when your family is starving you are not interested in planting oil producing fruits which you cant eat, so very few people took up the request...
When you look a fuel costs, especially now, we should be going the way of bio diesel I think...

Just watched a Foreign Correspondent segment on this very topic.

Featured a German born national making Bio-diesel out of coconut husks in Bouganville.....

No emissions, no alteration of diesel engine required, no noticable degradation in engine performance...

True.... the coconut oil does begin to gel (set) below 25 degrees and has to have normal diesel added to maintain liquidity....

Colder it gets the more diesel component required....

Interesting and intriquing

I have just watched "crude impact" on SBS. Part 2 is on after the news. It blows me away the length people have gone to, and the destruction of habitats and lives, to satisfy our desire to consume. How do we get out of the consumption rut?
