I'd be inclined to assume it's not too bad, having read that.
It says to refer to the safety data sheet, but I couldn't find one so you might have to email them to ask for it?

Hi all,

So with the IBCs with waterbased "varnish", I was able to take a photo.
I also found a technical data sheet, not msds. Might have to contact the manufacturer for it. So far as I know the product is used on labeling products for a food packaging manufacture here.
Here is the technical data PDF

The photo I took

From what I can tell its fairly harmless, but can not confirm further without msds.
Aparently dried its virtually non toxic.

I am talking myself up here. But can someone please give me a better opinion on the use of this IBC.

TIA :)

My tanks had water based resin in them? I was a bit concerned at the time, but they almost cleaned themselves, most of the resin came out in one piece, the label on my tanks says if you swallow do not induce vomiting, if contact with the eyes rinse with water, then the best bit, seek medical advice if symptoms persist? Just give it a wash, set it up, put some water in it for a few days to de chlorinate the water, setup your piping, run pump for a few days, then chuck everything in like I did! Sweet!

Its like those warning labels you get on plastic bags! Do not place over head? I haven’t seen to many people lately walking around with plastic bags over their heads? But you do live in NZ?

Hi Blizzard,
Yep some safety measures seem repetitive. Heres hoping the now dried coating will peel away. Ive seen a lot of people on the forums discussing the plastic inside of IBCs being porous and absorbent, seems smooth to me though. Perhaps made this way so most things can be removed?

I've seen my fair share of bag wearing delinquents in Freo and Northbridge :P

Hi all,

I finally got a reply from the manufacturer.
They were also kind enough to send the MSDS.
Please oh wise ones, can you assist in my IBC budget spending by checking over the chemical makeup of this product Aquaprint.

Ive had a flick through and the R standards list the norm except for 1 of the composites.

Aquaprint MSDS

Thanks for your input all. This is my closest unlimited resource of IBCs. My fingers are crossed

TIA

Ark's post about polyacrylates will give you more info, but the MSDS lists no toxicity, no toxocology, and no long term. It also specifies miscible in water, so it should wash up easily. Looks fine to me.

Hiya battz, polyethelyne is not porous nor absorbent which is why it make such a good material to manufacture containers from. After a good clean and dry in the sun I would have no hesitation in using any ibc regardless of its previous holdings.
I would also like to be able to get free ibc's and am slightly jealous...
