I'd go circular tanks, even with the "optimum" ratio being out that choice has a number of things going for it that the trough idea dosent.

1 installation

2 cutting will be easier Cutting an angel across a tube is PITA plus they will need a lot of support to stop them bowing out in the middle, cut a blue barrel in halve and see what happens when you fill it with water.

3 not optimum numbers but easier to get flows with pumps and jets and the numbers for an ibc are 1:1 (nearly) and they work ok as a fish tank

4 resale value If on the off chance you wanted to sell in future.
