So I got ahold of my first IBC totes and I read a bit on the forums.

I made sure to get food quality totes, and then I also pressured sprayed them out and then cleaned all the fittings with alcohol.

So then I got some feeder goldfish and let them stay in each half of the tank for about 24 hours.

I have two totes so 4 halves. In two of the halves one goldfish had died. Is this cause for concern? I started with 20 and I'm down to 18.

Thanks!

To add to what Charlie said,

It sounds like you have 4 x fish tanks and you are expecting cycling to happen just by having them? If so, that's not how AP works. What do you actually have set up right now?

Have you measured the basic water indicators? (pH, Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates)

For that matter, where did your water come from?

What are you using for filtering?

Was it the top or bottom halves where the fish died?

How soon after you got them did the fish die?

What are the symptoms of the fish?

Okay, sorry for any confusion.

I have no filtering or anything at all. I simply wanted to test that I cleaned out the IBC totes of the food chemical that was previously in the totes and that the totes could sustain fish. So I put feeder fish in each of the totes for 24 hours. Just to see if they survive (i feed the fish ect). The water is tap water.

I simply have concern now because 2 out of the twenty fish have died.

Both times I have bought feeder gold fish i was told not to expect em to live very long. I last bought ten. within 24 hours 1 died and after a month another died (vanished no bones nothing). I would say the fish death was not my fault and the second was.

What was the food chemical?

Also take what i say with a grain of salt as I am a newb as well.
