I was out tending to the GBs when i placed a small lunch box over the GB feed.

I saw that the water coming in, falling into the box then overflowing out was aerating the water quiet a bit.

Is there much of a difference in say the normal splash into the GB or would it be better to have a 50mm with end cap to have the water fall into then overflow into the GB (end cap will sit on GB bottom)?

I'd actually place the inflow either slightly below, or nearly on the surface of the media... otherwise you'll end up with algae or moss growing over the clay balls...

Wish my FT water was that clean....

I have a 25mm pipe that connects to that fitting and is about 5mm under the media but i found it annoying as i couldnt see the flow into the GB.

Charlie, lay off the feed . It took me like a week till it cleared. Now i only feed tiny amounts as my nitrites are still sky high doh!

I like to have my water inflow to the beds visible but close enough to the surface of the gravel to minimize splashing. It's hot enough here in summer that the gravel usually drys fast enough to minimize algae growth where the water hits the surface because it drys out fairly quick between cycles on the timed beds but if the water is constantly flowing into a bed you definitely want to reduce the amount of wet media under sunlight.
