I have some extra hydroponic equipment lying around and I put it up for barter on craigslist. I got a reply from a metal worker saying he can build some tray stands. The light set up he wants is worth about 400$ so I want a fair trade. I was thinking 4 tray stands, for grow trays that are 4ft x 4ft each. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding the size of the trays and what material to build with? Or even what kind of weld? (I personally have zero knowledge in regards to metal working haha) Thanks for any kind of advice.

What are you planning on putting in the trays, rock media? Probably the simplest would be 25mm box steel, very strong, and cheap to buy. Just make sure you include enough supports under the tray..
