Yes that is correct Erich if all the pipe work is set up correctly. But in my case the sump return pipe was running uphill, as the beds had sunk. Even turning the inlet completely off would not cause the siphon to break. :)

I wish I had of noticed the sunken beds sooner, but now I have two spare bells :D
