As the title says what pipe size should i use off my Laguna 6000 running from sump back to fish tank with a maximum 1.3M head, with a return pipe with valve back to the sump for any excess. Initially the tank will be gravity feeding to 2x 500L growbeds.
I am thinking 40mm
What do you folks think

From my experience; with a 6000LPH pump, 25mm HDPE pressure pipe and fittings (Plasson) is adequate to deliver required flow to grow beds at 3m head C/W By-Pass valve feeding Venturi to aerate and agitate Fish tank. I have one elbow and one tee in the supply line over a 5m run..
25mm pipe and fittings are far less expensive than 40mm.

Cheers IanK.

40mm is probably overkill on a 6000. I'm only running 40mm off of an 11000 maxflow.

25 should be more than sufficient.

Thanks guys.
Ian, do you have a design for a venturi. The pump (in theory) will be pumping 2000L/hr into the fish tank and any spare back to sump

cheers

Mantis;
Bit of elec conduit, notched with a couple of "V's" inserted into a 25mm/20mm reducing tee with a couple of wraps of Teflon to get a seal and a Gate control valve.

V's directed upstream side. Lots of water movement as well as bubbles.

Bit of Fibreglass wool as a sound muffler.

Looks good thanks. Is that just a bit of filter wool in the top to stop debry getting in?

Mantis,
Nope, just acts as a sound muffler.
My wife's Bedroom is just above the Fish tank area and it cuts out all the gurgling noise.
(Gurgling from the Venturi, that is, not from the Wife!!)
Cheers IanK :D
