Well I went down to murray's to pick up my new growbed and was very pleased indeed. PIcked it up this morning and have set most of it up.
Using 20mm granite gravel and as yet have not washed it (could be trouble) but will wait and see how it goes.

File comment: thought you would all appreciate the dog as well as the almost complete growbed. Just have to do the plumbing from bed to IBC and pack

Looks a lot like my bed Nick - except mine is full of green stuff. I reckon they will look exactly the same within the month.

Taht's a dascund yeah Nick? Ripper little pooch, we had one crossed with a cockerspaniel named Rastus, and he lived till he was fifteen, even survived a slipped disk and 2 car smashes into him!

Hee Hee ..

U guys are barking mad!

(I say this as I am wolfing down my supper!)

I am howling with delight as I see that these grow beds look fantastic ..

I have been sniffing around with the autosiphon idea ..

Muzz ... I am thinking growbeds with integrated foolproof auto-siphons, sort of moulded into your trays ... then you could have both the aquaponics market (fairly small) and hydroponics market (much bigger) waiting to buy!

(PS.. Do I get to trial them?)

Jonny7,
I really have not looked into this autosiphon bit as yet, but perhaps you are right, I will start mucking around with one and see what I can come up with.
The worst part about grow beds is loading that gravel.

I think I might have an alternative to the gravel that looks very promising.

Alternative to gravel - fess up Muzz what is it. I presume it is not hydroton, scoria, perlite, rockwool or water. I am curious.

Regarding the autosyphon, I think it would be unwise to build it into the bed design. Producing a single piece unit from fibreglass, as a seperat item, may have merits - but even then the size needed etc is dependant upon other factors.
