The newer stormwater (dwv) type pipes have a foam sandwich contruction that's been questioned...

To my knowledge... pressure pipe is still OK....

Rupe DWV is drain waste & vent..( non-potable)
SWP = storm water pipe (potable) or uPVC

The stormwater pipe (90mm) also has the sandwich these days. This is only an issue if exposed though I would think.

I've used 100mm DWV for my stormwater piping going to my rainwater tank. This is quite a common practice due to the extra strength you get from the DWV - which is particularly important when burying it like I have (down - up setup). I'm not saying it is potable - but I'm taking my chances and reducing risk by draining the water that sits in the pipework between rain.

I've seen this question come up a lot, "is it safe" usually pertains to copper pipe that nearly everybody has floating around the back yard. "most" of us know the answer to that question, but "most" of us have also had to ask the question to find out.

Questions also get into fertilizers, Piping temperatures and climates.

uPVC, with my understanding should be OK. It is stamped on the side of the water tube in my caravan. Country properties run roof water to tanks via it! (But it only does one pass). But if it's ok for one pass it should be good for more.

BUT I MAY BE WRONG!.. There are people out there smarter than me!!!

Should anyone with the magic button see fit, a thread on "Aquaponics Discussions" with the title "Safe or Not Safe" could see many of this type question answered.

I've been given a chunk of 225 UPVC DWV with the foam sandwichy thing. Weighs a ton. If I turn it into a stawberry tower and bend out some holes, I should be fine as long as the middle layer is not exposed and I silicone up all the exposed edges?

If you're content with using the PVC glue (and most are more content with that than leaks), why not put a smear of glue over the exposed material in the tower?

Does anyone know anywhere that deals with PVC fittings online other than wetearth?
