Have a look at Jaycar - http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.a ... &SUBCATID=

If link doesn't work do a search for CAT. NO. MS6110. This timer can be set for a min of 1 minute and can do 8 on/off programmes. Cost is $26.95. Description is mains timer with LCD. Also rated at 30 amps.

Yeah went into jaycar yesterday to find out exactly what it could do - that was as helpful as tits on a bull. couldn't work out if it could handle 8 programs every 12 hours or if the 12/24 hours represents the different way to read a clock.

From what joel is saying 8 cycles in 12 hours would be fine, possibly even 8 in 24.

I will try ringing an Adelaide Jaycar as I have had better responses from them over the phone than I have had in person in Perth... - go figure..

Maybe it is the moe... for Movember. Speaking of which I think I should post something in General Banter.

Try altronics www.altronics.com.au which is one street over from Jaycar, Roe St I think. The one mentioned earlier in the post will do 14 on+off programs a day.
There customer service s**ts all over jaycar, which has really turned into a novelty store or dare I say a Dick Smiths.

That altronics timer "countdown timer " feature would be very useful if you could set it to cycle. eg. on for X mins then off for Y mins, do it again. Maybe it does, but sounds more like a manual thing, like go on/off in X mins from now.

It also has a random feature which turns it on for a range of times and then off for a certain time and so on. I was tempted to use that option but I want to be able to go down and double check it is working when it is suppose to. Rather than waiting for it to come on.

Just got one of these timers from Altronics.

The timer delay function is just that, it will switch something either on or off in a specified time period, ie off in 30 mins.

The random function has the following parameters:

Min Off time = 26 min
Max off time = 42 min

Min on time = 10 min
Max on time = 26 min.

I set my timer to turn on her 10 mins every 50 mins. It has been running for about a week now no dramas. I think it is the cheapest/most reliable solution for what we need at the moment.
