Sorry if this somewhat on topic.... but advice please..

Have an "Electromagnetic Air pump "... It has a 10mm outlet .... specs as below...

Output: 60L/min
Power: 35W
Pressure: 0.03Mpa

I want to run this through PVC pipe, which will be tapped with adjustable outlets...

Questions....

What sized pipe would I be best using... and why?

What's the maximum length I might be restricted to, and what's the affect of length (if any) on pressure over distance?

Thanks.

Heres the end of my air line 15 mm 20 ft away from the pump since the photo theres been more lines put in and the tap is if you want to do maint you dont need to walk back to the pump to turn it off in your case i would use the larger20 mm pipe

hi frank, i run 8000 litre system, i find if the cyctem dosnt cycle for more than 4 hrs, the fish come to the top and cark it :( I have 100 trout, about 3/4 kilo each , 100 cod, these are still small but will grow to be 5-10 kilo fish, they have a life span up to 30 yrs, In the neat future i will add 150 silver perch... This all runs through 20 grow beds, so i need a good air supply

I agree with useing a gutter frank, but I am yet to find one made of plastic....the water no longer squirts out of the pvc pipe, I have made the hole bigger. Its as good as I can do at the moment.

hi all,
thanks for stepping in and more or less accepting my ideas

Mizzie, you need good aeration
not necessarily air supply :geek:
what do you call cod? are they freshwater fish? how fast do they grow to this huge size?
anyway:
100 x .75 kgs = 75 kgs for the trout
say 100 x 5 kg = 500 kgs for the cod
say 150 x .3 kgs = 45 kgs for the silver perch (I'm just guessing)

makes a total of 620 kgs for 8000 liters of water
so a net density of almost 80 kgs/m³
the relative density depends on your recirculation rate:
if that is 1 x per hour, the relate density stays 80 kgs/m³/hr
which is really pushing your system to or even over the limits of density
if that is 2 x per hour, the relative density diminishes to 40 kgs/m³/hr
if that is 4 x per hour, the relative density diminishes to 20 kgs/m³/hr

I am sorry, but I am not ready to take the responsibility of giving concrete advice on what you need as recirculation rates:
I think trout need a lot more DO than silver perch
TMK they need also colder water to thrive
I have no clue to what your cod would need

too many unknown factors, and even if I would know them, the responsibility would still stay yours,
as my knowledge is limited to what I found on the net, which sometimes is contradictory

but I can assure you that the research I did, was done carefully and the equations I used in my calculators came only from TMO trustworthy sources
which are all mentioned so you can check
I will use these equations as I know myself to be trustworthy

whether you trust me as much as I do is up to you and stays your own responsibility
