G'day Matt,

how are the plans going over there for building your system?

I'm not too sure exactly which codec it is that's required, I think for memory that if your using windows media player, you may need to 'check for updates' under the help menu.

Otherwise if that doesn't work you can download Divx player from http://www.divx.com it's a free program to download that I've just tested and the CD video segments work fine using the divx player. The video segments on the CD are no where near as clear as the video on the DVD though unfortunately.

Let me know if you have any further dramas.

13 Mg download on the only phone line at the children’s home 33k - might have to do that 2nite.
For those interested I plan to do a backyard aquaponics system here in the SALAM orphanage www.salambali.com

I have pretty much costed the project with local materials but I am a little stuck on what to use for grow out containers. Concrete would be the cheapest option but ugly as all heck and not portable. I am looking into having tanks made up but that could double the cost.
I have a friend who is involved in a huge fish project in Aceh. Can you give me more details of the company involved with the aquaponics system up there? He may want to see it.

Joel you should consider hiring yourself out as a consultant for the project. These guys are on huge money - like 300 - 600 USD a day! )

Matt,

I worked in aid projects in the late 70's and 80's in Africa and SE Asia .. via ODA (Brit government).

Joel's knowledge and expertise would be most welcome in situations such as yours.

I think the secret is to try to get tanks for next to nothing ... approach mining and chemical companies ... food factories that are upgrading ... check out the chemicals that have been in the tanks, and if they are safe .. no problem ...

Who knows ... what is a liability for one company is a godsend to someone ...

I remember working in a minig co. in WA and they had three massive tanks .. contents were water, ammonia liquor and chalk... no nasties!

IDEAL for fish culture!

What fish are you farming?

I am interested in microscale aquaponics .. may be useful as a means to supply one family with fish protien and some green veggies .. herbs etc. etc.. also small scale cultivation of duckweed as fish food, chook food, rabbit food , and use of manure from these animals to feed the fish.

So please let me know how you get on.

Regards

Johnnie :)
