| Post subject: | Aquaponic Systems in Aceh, Indonesia. |
IRES, an Australian company, has succesfully commissioned their first aquaponics system in Batee Village, Pidie District, Aceh Province. This is the first of many systems that are planned throughout the tsunami ravaged areas of Indonesia. The aquaponic systems, based on the backyard aquaponics manual, will help the locals with the problem of growing food and making a living in areas where salinity has effected the soils that would normally be be used for growing food. |

Yeah, thanks Corny... It's especially good to see that it's being used for something as essential as growing food in Aceh. |

Joel You'll be happy to know that yesterday we spent a whole day talking about aquaponics to 70 Indonesians including the Department of Agriculture. We were a bit uncertain how they would take to it, but in a survey covering all topics over the 3 days, aquaponics got 52% of the vote - very impressive. I just hope we can make it all work now..... Cheers Brad |

Hey Brad, That sounds great.... Once people see it all in action, and see the plants and fish growing well in a system thats booming then it's pretty hard for pick any other method of growing, especially when your soil is no good, and water is in short supply... Theres no doubt that you will make it work Brad You should get down to Adelaide in August for the Australasian Aquaculture Conference, theres going to be four international aquaponic experts presenting papers on commercial aquaponics, the first time this has been done anywhere... I'm planning on being there.... Thanks for the info mate... |

Dr. J, This is utterly brilliant! I said, many months ago, that aquaponics would be perfect for ensuring food security in the areas ravaged by the tsunami. How excellent that this is happening! Big big congrats to you! Now, you have to get them to get you over there as a consultant! Not kidding! Work on it! Happily (edited to add:) and pushily, C |
