Thanks for posting that Rupe. This is a great begining and. I do wish they would look at 1. Crops without netting, since most field grown crops in soil don't have netting and most AP home producers don't use netting either. 2. Root crops in AP - I suspect this will also show minimal problems since soil has millions of microbes per gm... A study which does everything wrong might be very interesting and might show how safe AP actually is (or isn't) without assuming it is inherently unsafe as implied for rootcrops and allowing birds access (or perhaps I missed a critical paper or misunderstood their rationale). Bottom line though is they had to work with what was available and they did a good job. |

a vague glance indicates that theres a reason this never got published anywhere peer reviewed. i'll have a closer look when I have some more time. |

Thanks for the article Rupe, it takes a bit of reading but there are some interesting aspects in there, not the least that more research needs to be done.( Always the case.) The bit I find relevant to E.Coli etc, and in this country the authorities will descend on you like a ton of bricks if E Coli turns up in your produce, is how do you keep birds, mice etc from getting on your food. Even in a semi-enclosed environment it is most difficult to keep birds away. We label all of our bagged produce with cautions to wash all produce before eating and as the produce is mainly lettuce, salads and herbs which will be eaten raw, we just have to hope that people follow instructions. Reading in the report about what is sprayed on field crops makes me want to puke but millions of people eat the produce and never have a health upset. Perhaps that is the area of research which would be most useful. WD and OH. |

In a month or so I plan to switch back to Bioponics with aged humonia. I wonder if there are any studies done on that. |

Bob, Look to Scandinavia for studies of using urine to fertilize crops. (They are not necessarily doing it in a ponics operations but actually using it on field crops I believe.) There has also been a book, Liquid Gold that talks about aging it to take care of the e. coli. |
