With 500 homes already lost in apparantly the worst fires ever in Texas.... our hearts go out to anyone affected, or in the area...

Stay safe guys & gals... and don't risk your life over your AP systems... or even your houses... get out if you have to...

It is like a seen from armageddon in some places. We have had several fires pop up within 10-15 mile of the house. This morning, the air was pretty thick with the smell of smoke and I noticed a little ash on the truck. About 20 or 30 miles away, Magnolia got hammered yesterday and they are still trying to contain that one. One friend is waiting to see if he still has a house and a couple family members were up late waiting to see if they had to evacuate. It is hard to imagine how dry it is here. Lots of smaller trees have surcome to the heat and died. Yards everywhere are brown and dead. With no real rains to speak of since January (coupled with record high heat), most of Texas is one big timber bundle looking for a spark. Still no rains in the forcast either. Last night was the first real break in the heat that we had in a long time. In the 60's this morning!!! And dispite the smell of smoke, it was a beautiful morning!

Oh and the bunnies....I'm not sure if the rabbits out back know something, but they sure were acting funny this morning. Perhaps the smell of smoke has them spooked, but they were very uneasy which is out of character for them. One of them was bouncing around and just banging into the sides of the cage...some sort of flight instinct. I really thought he was going to hurt himself.

Everyone else OK?

So far the Red Oak area has fared well.... We had a haze of smoke from fires 20 to 30 miles south, south east of here this morning
