UES is seeking "sophisticated and professional investors" wishing to participate in the company's early stage capital raising. To invest in Urban Ecological Systems under the provisions of section 708(8) or section 708(11) of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), investors need to be classified as “Sophisticated” or “Professional”.

Well that precludes me:) I Drink Melbourne Bitter not Heinekin.

Interesting that they seem to be allowed to use the word "Organic" ..... I thought discussions on here suggested that was not allowed under the current definition.

I do wish them luck in a sense of spreading the AP idea .....,, but I have great reservations about some of the tactics such as trying Patent certain things.

I think they're leveraging their "organic certification from their original farm system...

Although they claim the "nutrients" to be an allowable organic input.... the fish feed wouldn't be.... perhaps worm leachate is... but I'm not sure how they got certification of a hydro style operation anyway....

Well ,, it would seem "AS a potential investor" I have a LOT of questions for them:)

their home page looks similar to other aquaponics sites i have visited over the past 22 months. Copywrite.!!!???
I believe that patenting aquaponics goes against the gain when it comes to helping the human race advance in feeding one self from ones own backyard.
I might stick my head out and write to the local MP(waiste of O2 in my opinion)make them earn there $.

I reckon it would be like trying to Patent the wheel (no one has done that either, as Patent office wasn't invented yet)
As Ivan said they maybe able to patent or register the Aquaponics Name but even Macca's have lost out trying to sue Mcdonalds Hardware, Mcdonalds Deli's and the like, the people that own these businesses actually have the surname Mcdonald and is how many have won the case, the only thing Macca's have won was against a 24 hour road side hamburger joint owned by a Mr Macdonald (note spelling) called Macdonalds Takeaway Burgers, it was ruled in the end he could be known as Macdonalds Takeaway only after Macca's offered to pay all his costs and pay him some remuneration, so technically I think Mr Mac still won and Macca's paid him to drop the Burger from his title, Macca's has registered hundreds of variants of Mcdonalds, Macdonalds etc and as they do have the registered names in all countries this is the only thing that prevents other Mr Mcdonald's using them, they obviously missed the obvious with Macdonalds Takeaway Burgers though but it must cost them millions to hold these names world wide, as will be the case in this instance
I doubt Hydroponics was in the dictionary 30 years ago but know is accepted by spell checka, the same will be for AP

I underlined the above bit not these clowns, have written an email to them and will publish both sides if I get a reply
But really after going through the link Burnsey posted previous page and reading the above quote it is clear to say that they are jumping on the bandwagon and cashing in, well trying to cash in, I doubt anyone here would support such rubbish, it is what we already do and what Joel is trying to achieve with the commercial system
I feel another debate coming on

We've written to our lawyers asking if there's anything that should concern us about the patent application. Will let you know what the response is...

On a similar front, there is a "Aquaponics Pty Ltd" business name registered. What this means is that you can't register a business like "Canberra Aquaponics" because it sounds like a division of Aquaponics Pty Ltd. It's kind of like having "Plumbing Pty Ltd".

Legal team says "Don't worry about it!"

As ourselves and others have been selling systems since before they lodged their patent application, we have proprietary rights. He felt that although they had tried to word it to cover a range of modifications, even if they did get it through, it would be extremely difficult for them to try and fight anything in court.
