I came up with an idea last night... I know, strange hey....

We are about to document making a simple IBC system, we will be filming the process to put it up on yourtube and also documenting all the parts and processes so that we can release a free pdf showing how we made the IBC system....

This is all very well, but there are just so many different ways of making IBC systems and incorporating IBCs into a system, that just showing one way of doing it isn't so useful. So, this is where I figured, what if we can get a whole range of different IBC systems documented into the same place. Then it would become a really useful tool for anyone trying to make a system.

So who would like to be a part of this? Do you have a system incorporating IBCs in some way? Would you like to be part of a collaborative effort to help people design and build their own aquaponics systems?

As I said, this would be a free information PDF. We will compile it and use our new graphic designer here to give it some flair, then people will be able to spread it all over the internet. This is one great way to beat those cheap e-book spammers, if things are released freely.

If you want to be part of this, could you please post a few pictures and a bit of a description of your system on this thread? If you'd like to include some more information about your IBC system, what successes or problems you may have had etc, changes you might make, etc, this would be great. I guess the more information provided, the better this document will become.

All credits will be given to those submit pictures and info, and we will include references and links back to peoples system threads on the forum, so that people can come and read through the system threads.. If you would rather remain anonymous, but would like to submit something that's fine, just let us know.. You can PM me or email me stuff..

So anyone interested? Or anyone have some suggestions they want to add to the idea?

Cool... :thumbright:

We'll just be making the most simple system, 1 IBC with the top off and inverted....

Simplest and cheapest for people to make.. But thats why it would be great to have the input of other peoples systems where there's lots of variety in the way they are used...

I did this and regret the move :upset:

There is a lack of access to the FT which is annoying the hell out of me. Maybe try to find a way to allow access to FT whilst keeping it simple

Chift Pist system made up of two IBCs (fish tank and sump) and BYAP grow beds.

One sump IBC is surrounded by roof insulation and marine ply then buried. The insulation helps to prevent winter ground temperatures from chilling the water off and allows Silver Perch to feed and grow through winter.

The other IBC is utilised as the fish tank and is clad in floor boards for aesthetic reasons. Cool room panels are used as lids on both sump and fish tank to minimise the penetration of light and cut down on algal growth.

The system is housed in a green house to regulate winter temperatures and allow good all year production of both fish and vegetables.

You can use any of the pics in my thread (link below) EB if my system suits your purpose :)

I want to make one with one ibc-fish tank, second cut to 700L sump and one 300L GB, the third cut in half for two 500L GB's. Bury the sump enough that the 500L gb's are at a workable height and still drain to sump. chift pist. Could be a made in a 2M square

The 300L sits on top of sump and drains into it as well im guessing?

Yeah thats what I am planning but with it offset a bit so access to the sump is easy

Yep you bet - you can use anything of mine you like. For FREE! :laughing3:

Just had a look at my thread and I'm not sure it actually has many really clear pics. I'll have a look through what I've got if you want to include my system - or take some better pics...

My system is upside down cv many - GBs drain into fish tank. Tank overflows into sump. Sump pumps to GBs.
2 1/2 buried IBCs - one as constant height tank, one as sump.
4 Barrel GBs on top of tank and sump.
1 IBC cut into 300ltr and 400ltr GBs - heights set so the bottoms of the IBC are at the height of the fish tank so they could drain. (Done again would use the full depth)

My setup is 'compact' with limited access to tank & sump - but I would make that choice again - others I wouldnt - I can provide a list if you think it would help others etc.
