What can you do with 2 barrels, 3-4 hours, a couple of power tools and a few fittings.. that is a very pleasant shape. Just cover it in some pretty material or find a paint that won't peel and it could be wife approved maybe. Does it seem to need any extra bracing? I know on a patio people get hammered and lean on stuff pretty hard and with all the cutting the lower barrel looks like it lost a lot of support. Could the other half barrel be used as an extra tank flowing water really slow filled with duckweed and set up as a water feature? If a nice skirt would be put around it it could increase system water volume and if the fish start pooping like crazy the duckweed could eat like a maniac. I guess you could float rafts in the other half barrel but a water feature with some flowers would look nicer. |

Seems pretty solid and sturdy, I could try and do some leaning on it to see how it goes, but IU think that it's naturally quite strong with the circular shape. I think I'll use another barrel and make another system the same.. |

gazza wrote: genius! Nupe... Not my design, as Mantis said, Zman built one, and there was a diagram I found online as well that had the same set up... I've documented the building of this one with a lot of images and we'll film making the next one, it will go into the new barrel manual with step by step instructions pictures and parts list etc, and up on youtube as well... I reckon this is an easier system than the IBC for beginners.. |

A 2/300L would be more than enough and it only has to pump to a half metre head |

I used a 1350 L pump because it's the smallest we have on the shelf |

i think it looks great.. i'd be a little worried about the ends of the growbed over the long term.. i think kwieland (chris) in toledo had barrels that started to crack where the thickness changes on the curve, but that might have been because it was supported by the "lip" of the top... |
