Hey! i was wondering if you guys had tried a timer similar to this one?

i bought a couple of them assuming my electrician friend can install this kind of timer n my unit whithout
much of a hassle,

but it turns out i was wrong.

to cut the story short, maybe you guys can help us out on how to install or set this kind of timers for a pump to run 15m on and 45min off.

any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you so much!

Get your electrician friend to click on the "Block Diagram" and the "Terminal Arrangement" buttons and see if that data is any help.

Think you might stuggle with a 12 min timer to get 15 on and 45 off, unless you start joining them in series, which then starts increasing your chance of failure as if any one timer fails the whole system can fail.

What you have is a din rail mounted timer, made to go inside an electrical box and be hard wired by an electrician. If you want to go the path of a timer, it's far simpler to use one that plugs straight into a normal GPO, no need for electricians to wire anything..

I use one like this been working fine for a year now.

any number of 15 minute intervals in 24 hours.

or you can use a digital plug in one, though those normally only have 16 time settings. I use digital ones now after having 3 of the mechanical ones fail in a year.

Yeah, we only use 1 type of timer... After going through many different brands having many failures, we now get no failures.

I am kind of sick of those cheap HPM timers. Never have long term luck with them. I did built one myself about 3 years ago now. Carlo Gavazzi timer. Freaking awesome. Never missed a beat. From memory, I believe you can set it to whatever timing you want, except that the accuracy of the dial reduces the higher you change your scaling, but once set, it is like clockwork.

I am considering building another one for my other system which uses the HPM timer. It is now on manual timer mode as it does not time anymore.

I think you could still probably get the Omrons to work but you probably need latching relay and some fancy wiring. The timer seems to have a base it gets inserted into, you got that base as well?

I have had a number of the cheap pool timers and they all give problems over time. The one I am using now supposedly turns on for 15 minutes every hour but in fact I am sometimes only getting 5-10 minutes of on time. This is not enough to trigger the bell siphons which I have designed to drain at about the 12 minute mark. I am currently building my own timer from an Arduino. It will have a 4 digit display and uses a solid state switch to switch 2 amps at 240v. I can set the timer to come on for any number of minutes that I like and hopefully it will be a lot more repeatable than the mechanical timers. It should be finished in a week or so, so I will let you know how it goes and maybe post some photos.

Surprised to see this thread revived again. Anyways, my Carlo Gavazzi timer is still going. Best A$100+ I ever spent on AP.

actually not a complicated timer..

it is a very good versatile timer where you can have many different time range available in just one same timer.

example - you buy a manual timer or a preset range of timer duration - let's say 0 - 5 mins. but later you want to change to a longer duration , your 1st timer that you have is fixed. you cannot go beyond 5 mins.

so, you gotta get another timer.

but this timer enable you to change the 'time' block - secs,10 secs,min.10 mins.hr and 10 hrs

( look at the attached manual where you see the buttons layout - number 4 )


at the 'mode' section ( number 6 ) is where you set the type of timing that you want - on/off or whatever.

This looks like the same bases as what you've got, although these are Allen-Bradley.
