Has anybody installed additional pumping capacity utilising any of the solar units on the market? Seems a good way to increase the cycling capacity into another bed eg permanently flooded waterloving plant bed etc, where it doesn't matter if water flows in and out are intermitant.

There are plenty out there but would greatly value individual's experience with different units. Many thanks in advance.

This is a 20W unit (around $200, so expensive but out here in the bush the power is usually problematic especially in summer):

I have picked up a pump from crazysales. It has a mode which allows a 15 min on and 45 min off to save the battery to run during the night. Service has been good from them (they replaced one my girlfriend bought which was damaged with no questions asked). The battery did run out during the cloudy period that we just had here in Perth but I am sure you could add a larger battery if you had some electrical knowledge.

It has only been running a month so far so I cannot vouch for its life.

Hi Santalum for about the same price you could get an 80watt solar panel, 300w sinewave inverter and a 2500ltr/h pump which would allow you to add other things like an air pump especially needed in summer if you have problem power. You will need a battery of course which adds to the cost but for the extra $60- $80 for a battery you would have a much better back up system and not limited to just a pump.
