okay, okay, I saw that now you are measuring the chemistry of the subject, but I only now begin to deal with Arduino, and the question occurred to me ...

Sorry, but I'm not the best in English.
I dont understand the sentence entirely clear:

It would be great if you could pop down your local electronics store and pic up a 1-wire digital probe set for $5, but ya can't :(

pop down=check ?

I look about, electronics stores, maybe they could offer something.
is exactly what you want to measure?

I am a biologist, and I studied electronics and programming too.
I ask the prof. in the university whether there may be some alternative ...

here is a chemist?
May not be directly measured by the things that would be enough but indirectly...
And then we could calculate the values.

I like the "spectroscope from webcam" idea

here is a program for webcam spectroscopes:

pop down=check ?

Hmmm ... more like... travel to (quickly and with ease)

[Although I just checked and most definitions mention a "sudden need" of some kind.]

The word "slang" is important if you need to search google for a definition

so do a google search for ....

+"pop down" +"slang" Australia*

*or Thailand or whatever

:D ahh, thanks BullwinkleII!

I made the webcam spectroscope... :) It shows the spectral images, but i have to calibrate.
Than i will make a stand, because its unstable.
Than i will try it with some different materials...

I do not think it will work, because much depends on where to focus the spectroscope, but at least i play a good one :D

you should start a new webcam spectroscope thread and show us

I would like to use to analyse the water, so it would be a sensore, and if it works, it would be an arduino sensore...and we could logging the datas
I tought its belong to here
that's why i didnt start a new thread, and i think if it was so simple, it would be used....
Although in the biological lab we used spectophotometer... but its mor expensive :)

I promis I wont flood this topic with the spectroscope :)
But, if some people want to me to start a new thread, and show the spectroscope...i will start :)

Do you Want? :)

I read about the webcam spectrometer before, it was developed by a highschool teacher for his class but he based it upon cameras in phones.

When I looked into it there seemed to be a large number of barriers, results would be affected by:
clarity of water, particles block the light hence affect capture
properties of sample container needed to be allowed for
calibration needed to be done against reference samples

I like the idea but couldn't think of a way around them...but I am not in that field so I am interested in your ideas katonafull.

I thought about this somewhere on this forum a while ago with regards the picaxe colour sensor

But as with a lot of vague thoughts, and coupled with an almost total lack of electronics Fu, I did nothing more about it.

I'm thinking about how much memory need the data logger, if i want to record 5 temperature, 1 humidity, and 1 lightness data in every two hours, until a month.
Is 4 GB enough?

4GB?
Um that is somewhat overkill....
31 days, 12 readings a day, 2 bytes each reading (14 bytes), 2 months.
10,416 bytes should do it ;)
4GB would give you 805357.91090629800307219662058372 months.....
