My favourite thing about that doco Joel... when they were interviewing Microsoft and went into the house of the future, almost every time they tried to show off something, it didnt work.
Reminded me of the blue screen of death at the win 98 launch

According to the doco... it was the porn industry that drove the VHS/Betacam battle to it's conclusion....

Basically Sony refused to allow any porn movies to use the Betacam format...

And the same thing has happened in the Bluray/HD-DVD.... this time however, although again initially refusing to allow Blueray to be used in the porn industry..... Sony quickly changed their mind once the porn industry said they'd abandon Bluray... and Sony did the numbers...

That story is very different to the reason I was always told why Betamax didnt take off, and it seemed a bit dodgy to me.
I was told it was simply because VHS could record longer and was cheaper.
JVC also sold the production rights, allowing mass marketing, which Sony didnt do.
It was a shame, BetaMax is a much better quality than VHS, but all consumers wanted was cheap and long record times.

I find it highly unlikely that it was from the porn industry that sunk BetaMax, and the claim has never really been substantiated.

Think of it from the consumer POV, pay $500 and be able to record for 3 hours on VHS, or pay $800 and record for 1.5 hours on BetaMax tapes that cost more.
Picture quality never really worried people.

Yep, but that's the point.... the porn industry could reach so many more people... because of all those reasons....

As someone who had worked for an Internet service provider, a loooong time ago, it was apparent that two industries built the Internet. Real estate, and the porn industry. If it was just real estate, we would all probibly still be on dial up. I remember when we hosted one site, we had to take it down, not for moral reasons as the owners of the ISP justified to themselves, but because we didn't have the bandwidth to handle it! I thing our engineers even helped the site owner find a provider that could handle the bandwidth.

What do you mean by real estate Ronmaaggi? The buying, selling and leasing of real estate in the real world; using the internet to advertise?

Make sure you are running the latest version of Safari or which ever browser you are using and keep your Operating System up to date as well. (Click on the Apple in the top left hand side of your screen then on Software Update...)

Also Macs implement Sandboxing:

I have done some research on Steve Jobs (co founder of Apple) and he used to be a bit of a hippie with long hair before he entered the tech industry, in fact he even grew his own vegetables. Here you see him growing vegetables at at 00:35 seconds mark:

When my friend gets a call like that he says, I'm only the butler and the other party hangs up straight away.

All of the above. When I worked on the help desk for the ISP, most of our clients were real estate agents, because the rmls listings were Internet based.
