How do I draw all the wires that jump over others. I notice people who knock up quick circuits still dont have wires jumping over tracks all over the place. Although sometimes if you open a very cheap radio or something you see them from time to time.

In my project, I'll need 20 of them.

when wires join make a filled in circle over the join, like a big full stop.
when wires dont join have no circle OR (my preference) draw a small half circle in one wire as though it "jumps" over the other wire.

can i do this in ascii art....

hmmm, kind of. The horizontal line is one continuous line, the veritical line "jumps" over the horizontal line. Of course it would be joined up properly if i drew it

+1 for schematics BW. This will be a recurring problem without them. Ask me how i know :P

Even if it is as simple as drawing some boxes with lines coming out and labelling each line. Obviously a proper schematic is better, but as long as you understand it.

Also your code will help you a lot as you decipher your board. There have been a few times that, without the code, i wouldnt have managed to understand a circuit. For people like me who cant just read a schematic, having code, a blank paper and pen can be king.

Perhaps go back to the electronics or picaxe forum where you were getting help for this stuff and see if you managed any details or schematics there that would help you now?

It's official.

I'm now willing to pay someone to fix this thing.

Just as soon as I can remember what it's supposed to do.

Im telling you what to do, not advising.. telling.

Get a pencil and paper, draw a box and call it micro.
Draw some dots or something and label them the pin names of the picaxe (whatever it is)
start with pin one, does it go to 5v or whatever ? draw it
pin 2, does it go to the motor or something, follow it, use the multimeter continuity setting (beep), draw it.

etc... When you finished post the pic of the drawing...

and go

hey bw.
one question thats been on my mind .
how big do the fish have to be to operate the lever?/or how much force has to be used to operate the lever for it to work ? would fingerlings be able to operate the switch?

@superveg, yeah yeah the problem is I dont know what it does.

Here's a magic box I'm holding in my hand. It's a grrodooddie. You dont know what it does or how it does it. Draw a circuit diagram.

You sound like the MIT course :)

@eagleye, I had one running with my little fingerings at the proof of concept stage. I have video somewhere...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFfWGw-N ... ature=plcp

I cant remember how big the fish were, but by the looks of them, not very. The lever the blade of a plastic knife if that give you some sense of scale.

The lever acts on one of those little clicky lever microswitch things that cost a dollar, and the knife blade has been glued on to extend it into the water, but also to pre-tension the switch so that, due to the angle the thing is set, the switch is right on the point of being triggered. I would guess that maybe even a big female guppy could trigger it. (or something not much bigger)

I'll get onto this thing soon and make it work. I need to win a developers board from picaxe so I need to submit it to their monthly project competition.

Maybe I'll have a look at that circuit diagram today.

Or maybe I just blog about the importance of a circuit diagram instead :)

The biggest of the problems is that it's almost finished except for the cuts in the board tracks, so I cant trace anything with a multi metre to find out what does what. Currently there are false connections all over the place.

No doubt that's where I went wrong.

The previous post was from Henry, deciphered from baby speak...

The reason daddy said to draw a schematic is because that will show you how it works !

You want to know how it works, and drawing a schematic will show you exactly that ...

:D

I hear you about the MIT course. My lack of disaprin with maths is starting to show :x

Post up a list of components on the board you made with the latest code. It is only a simple project. I made sense of the last lot of code you wrote fairly quickly and I had to remember half the pickaxe commands.

Sent from my brain to my fingers to my keyboard to the internet.
