I have some holiday time at the end of the year. I am looking for an open-source project to help with.

I have 25 years of experience as a software developer in Linux and embedded systems using PIC Microchip and PC104.

I have Raspberry Pi 4 and several ARM SBC / PC104 systems. I would be willing to buy some Arduino systems if you need help with that. I am really excited about the new systems they have.

I also have many years of experience with Amazon cloud and have been using Terraform to deploy Angular websites.

I would like to see your exciting project. Please post a reply with a link to your open-source project so we can all learn about what you are using technology for in aquaponic systems.

This is one of the ARM boards I used for a project years ago. These are the https://www.embeddedarm.com/products/TS-7350. It runs Debian. I created a small web service running Perl to automate the control of the relay board. I think I may revive this project and adapt the controls for more custom features.

These are very reliable boards. The project I used these for was to automate the flow of liquid in a laboratory. It controlled valves and pump motors. Some were configured for sensor input from pressure and temperature among other things. Some boards were used to control keypads and locks.

I haven't got around to the nerdy, automate the hell out of and monitor everything i can electronically yet but I am certainly interested to see what project you end up helping out with and giving it a look.

I'd like to see a photo cell that detects varying light strength. (a brief search says they're out there) but way beyond my expertise. Then adjust current to an LED light set up. Which would also ignore changing lengths of the day. "A solar supplament" For instance, would power up to some degree should a thick cloud block the sun. Or in my case, only having 1.5 hours of full sun because of large trees.

I ran this idea by a lighting supply guy. No response. Like i was speaking some unknown language.

Never underestimate the power of lynix or open source. Haha

Please help if you still can.

A lot of higher end lights have 0-10V dimming control which would probably be the easiest way to control an LED light setup for various illumination levels.

Nice, but would you happen to know how to connect to a particular 'intensity' sensitive photo cell?

You could do it with an arduino pretty easily/cheaply. Any basic photocell could be used on an input pin (just run a wire or otherwise place it so it won't see your lighting.) The output for 0-10v would be more tricky but you could make an op amp circuit or possibly a voltage DAC like the Linear Technology LTC1257.
